धृतराष्ट्र उवाच |
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः |
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय ||1||
Dhritarashtra uvaacha
Dharmakshetery kurukshetrey samavetaa yuyutsavaha
maamakaah paanavaashchaiva kimakurvata sanjaya
Thus spoke Dhritarashtra: 'O Sanjaya, tell me what is going on in that holy field of Kurukshetra, where my sons and the Pandavas have gathered to fight?' (1-1)
नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सत: |
उभयोरपि दृष्टोऽन्तस्त्वनयोस्तत्त्वदर्शिभि: || 16||
Naasato vidyatey bhaavo naabhaavo vidyatey sataha
ubhayorapi drishton-tas-tv-anayos-tattva-darshibhihi
All the wise seers have discovered this truth: of the non-existent there is no coming to be; of the existent there is no ceasing to be. (2-16)
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन ।
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥
Karmanye-vaadhi-kaarastey maa phaleshu kadaachana Maa karma-phala-hetur-bhoor-maa tey sango-stva-karmaani
